Academic Connections provides an opportunity for eligible students maintaining a cumulative minimum 3.3 GPA, entering grades 10-12. The program invites students to explore some of the best UCSD has to offer. This program is designed specifically for outstanding students who want to jump start their college experience. The goal of the Academic Connections program is to connect select high school students with UCSD by providing hands-on college subject matter courses which provide students with an opportunity to explore life and learning at this top-ranked research university located in the beautiful San Diego area.

Academic Connections offers courses in many disciplines. Students choose one three-week course to take, and those classes meet five hours a day. To ensure quality interaction with instructor and instructional assistant, course enrollments are small, with a maximum of 22 students allowed in each class. Academic Connections instructors are typically UCSD doctoral students who design and instruct the course. This engaging combination brings a freshness and excitement to the class.

The majority of students opt to live on campus in the residence halls, while a small percentage choose to commute on a daily basis. Both options allow you the opportunity to participate in activities in the afternoon, early evening and weekends. These activities include sports, arts and crafts, music, dances, talent shows and more. The residential program is a wonderful opportunity for participants to experience living on a college campus. It also allows participants to take advantage of the resources the beautiful UCSD campus has to offer. The resident halls are staffed with an experienced and trained Resident Dean, Assistant Resident Dean, office staff and residential assistants who provide supervision 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.
